All major web browsers allow users to save passwords so that users do not need to remember passwords. The Safari browser in iOS and Mac also allows saving passwords.
While independent password managers are recommended for better security, most users use the built-in password managers offered in web browsers to save passwords.
If you have saved passwords in the Safari browser and want to sign in to a website/service on another device where the Safari browser is unavailable, you can open Safari’s password manager to view all saved passwords.
For instance, recent versions of Safari are not available for Windows. So, if you need to sign in to a service/website on a Windows device but the password is saved in Safari on Mac/iPhone/iPad, you can manually open Safari’s password manager to view stored passwords.
Here is how to view the passwords saved in the Safari browser on Mac and iPhone/iPad.
View passwords saved in Safari on Mac
Step 1: Open the Safari browser.
Step 2: Click on the Safari menu and then click Preferences.
Step 3: Switch to the Passwords tab.
Step 4: The Passwords tab requires your authentication to show saved passwords. Type your Mac’s user password or use Touch ID (if your Mac supports and is enabled) to see all saved passwords.
As you can see in the picture, the left pane shows URLs for which passwords are saved. Select a URL to see the saved username and password on the right side. The page also offers an edit option to update saved information.
The password field shows dots instead of actual passwords by default. You need to hover the mouse cursor over the dots to see the actual password.
