As long as both devices are on the same WiFi network, your Echo Show can display a clear image from your Nest security cameras. Just say, “Alexa show me the backyard camera”, your Echo Show will stream the video right to you. Just make sure that your Nest Camera isn’t too far away from the WiFi router.

There are several ways to set up your security system on your own, but the process can be a little more complicated when it comes to joining devices and making sure the connections are perfect. But this pairing of smart home devices is paving the way for total security, and customers have never been happier.

Can You See Nest Camera On Echo Show?

Once you’ve got everything set up and after the integration is complete, there is no change to your Alexa’s overall functionality, and now all you have to do is simply ask Alexa to show you a particular camera, and viola the feed is streamed right to your Echo Show.

Setting Up Your Nest

Step 1: Get the Nest app

You can find it by going to Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS) and searching the keyword “Nest”. The icon will be a light blue square with a white house shape in the middle, and if you searched for the exact keyword then it will be the first option. Once you find that all you need to do is press download.

Step 2: Set up the account and select ‘add new’

Once the app is downloaded, open it and sign in or create a new account. After that, you will need to press the little plus (+) icon on the home screen to add a new Nest device to your account. To add a device you can type in the device’s serial number, normally located on the bottom of the device, or you can scan the QR code located on the Nest device.

Step 3: Name the camera and power on

You can choose to name each device from the curated list of commonly used names or you can create a custom name for each Nest. You will then need to plug it into a power source using the power cable and the adapter. The power indicator light will turn blue once powered on, and when the blue light is blinking it will be ready to connect.

Step 4: Connect to WiFi and mount

You’re nearly done! Now you need to open your Nest app, it should automatically start looking for local networks to connect to, select your network and make sure it’s the same network your Echo is connected to. After you’ve connected your camera(s), mount them in your desired location(s) and then you can begin the integration process with your Echo.

Setting Up Your Alexa

You’ve got all your security cameras set up and mounted, now you just need to “teach” your Alexa to use them. The steps below will walk you through how to use the smart home skills menu in your Alexa app.

Step 1: Teach Alexa

Open your Alexa app on your smartphone and tap the Menu, or “hamburger” icon, at the top left of your screen. Select ‘skills’ in the menu, and type ‘Nest Camera’ until it appears in the skills suggestions.

Step 2: Enable the Nest Cameras

Choose the camera you would like to start with and tap ‘Enable To Use’, or in some older version of the app it’s just ‘Enable’. Once you have enabled the camera, you will need to enter your Nest account username and password and wait for Alexa to accept your credentials. Alexa will then scan for a nearby Nest device, just select ‘Accept’ and wait for the process to finish.

Troubleshooting Integration

If you’re having problems integrating your Alexa and Nest cams, go back to the ‘Menu’ icon and select ‘Smart Home’ then select your Nest camera. It should be in the list of devices if you followed the steps outlined above, if not you will need to select ‘Add Device’ and follow the instructions on your screen.

Remember to make sure that all of your Nest cams are connected to the same WiFi network as your Alexa, or Alexa will not be able to connect to the Nest camera. Also keep in mind that the further away your Nest camera is from your WiFi router, the slower the signal takes to get back and forth, which could cause a grainy image.

How Do I Show The Camera On My Echo?

Once the integration is completed all you need to stream the Nest cams video to your Echo Show is by using your Alexa’s voice commands. You can say “Alexa, show me driveway 1 camera”, try to keep your custom camera names simple because they are harder for Alexa to understand.

You can also use your Alexa-enabled remote to view the Nest cams on your echo, simply press and hold the microphone button while you’re saying the command. One drawback is that, currently, split-screen viewing is not available on Echo Show, so you will have to ask Alexa to switch cameras.

However, Echo’s display change rate is quick, so you never miss a beat while viewing different video streams.
