Use Android Phone Without SIM Card

Smartphones and SIM Cards are almost like conjoined twins and it is difficult to imagine one without the other.

However, getting a SIM Card also means getting in to a Contract, Paying Monthly Fees, Taxes and other charges to use the Service Providers Network.

If for some reason you do not want to get into a Contract, you can go for a fixed pre-paid plan or use your Phone as WiFi only device.

Even without an active SIM Card, your Phone can still send and receive Messages, Browse Internet, use Google Maps, Play Videos, Play Movies and perform other tasks using Free WiFi Network.

1. Activate Android Phone Without SIM Card

The first hurdle in using an Android Phone without an active Cellular Plan is to figure out a way to activate your device without SIM Card.

When you start setting up a New or Factory Reset Android Phone, it will prompt you to Insert SIM Card, but on most Android Phones you can skip “Insert SIM Card” prompt and complete the Setup Process.

Press the Power Button to start your Phone and Dismiss “Insert SIM Card” prompt.

After this, select Language > select your WiFi Network > enter WiFi Network Password and follow the instructions to complete the setup process.

2. Use VOIP Apps Text Messages, Voice & Video Calls

There are many popular VOIP Apps like WhatsApp, Google Voice, TextNow, Telegram and others which can be used to send text messages and make voice and video calls.

Perhaps, the most popular among these is WhatsApp, which allows its users to make free Voice and Video Calls to anyone, located anywhere in the World.

Although, WhatsApp verifies its users using a Phone Number, it is still possible to use Use WhatsApp Without Phone Number or SIM Card.

3. Use Chrome Browser for Web Browsing

Most Android Phones come with Google’s Chrome Browser installed on them. If this is not the case, you can always download and Install Chrome App from Google Play Store.

4. Project Media from Android Phone to TV

If you are like most users, it is likely that you want to use your smartphone to seek entertainment, learn new skills and gain knowledge.

These requirements can be easily fulfilled by YouTube, which comes pre-installed on most Android Phones.

If you have a Chromecast device, you can project Movies and Videos from Android Phone on to the larger screen of your Home Television.

5. Use Google Maps Offline

Even if your Android Phone is not connected to a cellular network, you can still get turn-by-turn voice navigation by using Google Maps in Offline Mode.

The only disadvantage of using Google Maps in offline mode is that you won’t be getting live traffic updates and location based alerts.

6. Use Skype to Call Landlines

Microsoft’s Skype App can be used to get your own Skype Phone Number and call both Mobile Phones and Landlines within North America for a small Monthly Fee.

Google’s Hangouts Dialer App is another outstanding service that allows you to place calls to landlines and mobile phones within North America for free.

If you have a Gmail Account, you can get Google Hangouts and there is no need to have an active SIM Card installed on your Phone to use Hangouts.
