Windows 10 ships with tens of handy apps and many of them are comparable to traditional desktop apps. The Store has also matured over the last couple of months (thanks to new updates), and now has plenty of useful and well designed apps.
Those of you who have explored the Store probably already have installed a bunch of apps from the Store and now wondering how to update these apps whenever there is a new update is released by the developer.
With default settings, Windows 10 automatically installs app updates when they become available, and users don’t need to manually check for updates and install them. This means that, unlike most traditional desktop programs out there for Windows operating system, you don’t need to manually update apps installed from the Store in Windows 10.
Since Windows 10 automatically checks and install app updates in the background, it’s hard to tell if an app update is installed unless there are noticeable UI changes in the updated app. Because of this, many users often want to manually check for app updates and install them.
If you want to manually check if all installed apps are up-to-date and install pending app updates, you can follow the given below instructions to manually check and install app updates in Windows 10. The following guide is also helpful for those users who have turned off automatic app updates in Windows 10.
NOTE: You don’t need to sign in to the Store app in order to manually updates apps.
Manually check and install app updates in Windows 10
Step 1: Open the Windows Store by clicking its tile on the Start menu. If the Store app tile is missing from the Start menu, type Store in the search box, and then press Enter key to the Store app. And if you have trouble opening the app, please refer to our fix to Store app issues guide or reset/clear the Store cache guide.
Step 2: Once the Store app is launched, click on the three dots icon (refer to the picture below) and then click Downloads and updates.
Step 3: Finally, click Get updates button to check if there are updates available for apps installed from the Store.
Step 4: As you can see in the picture below, if an update is available for one or more apps, the Store will list them and provide an option to update them. Click the download icon next to an app name to update the individual app or click Update all to update all apps (the best way).
Depending on the size and number of apps, the time required to update apps installed from the Store might vary.
