Most PC users like to see their favorite picture as desktop background. However, some users want live wallpaper as their Windows 10/11 desktop background.
The problem is both Windows 10 and 11 do not support live wallpaper out of the box. That is, you cannot set a live picture as a desktop background, even if you have one. However, this was possible in Windows 7 with the help of a feature called Dreamscene.
In Windows 10/11, you have to use third-party tools to set a live wallpaper as the desktop background. Luckily, there are a few apps that make this possible.
Lively Wallpaper is one such app designed to help users set live wallpapers in Windows 10/11. The best part is that Lively is completely free.
The Lively Wallpaper app offers about a dozen live wallpapers. In addition to the live wallpapers available in the Lively app, you can also download and use new live wallpapers with Lively.
Use Lively Wallpaper to set live wallpapers in Windows 10/11
Here is how to use the Lively app to set live wallpapers in Windows 10/11.
Step 1: The Lively Wallpaper app can be installed from the Store in Windows 10/11. Launch the Store app, search for Lively, and then click the Install button to get it. If you are unable find, use this Lively Wallpaper link.
Step 2: Launch the Lively Wallpaper app by searching or clicking on its icon in the system tray.
Step 3: Click on the three dots on the live wallpaper you want to set as the desktop background and then click the Set as wallpaper to make it your Windows 10/11 wallpaper. Of course, you can preview the wallpaper by clicking the three dots and then clicking the Preview option.
If you prefer to set your own live wallpaper as the desktop background, click on the Add Wallpaper button and then select the live wallpaper file.
Tip: When the Lively Wallpaper is running, perform right-click on its icon in the system tray to options to quit or pause.
NOTE: In our test, we observed that the Lively app uses a significant amount of system resources. On our Windows 11 PC, it was using about 5% of CPU and ~150 MB of RAM. That said, the Lively Wallpaper app offers an option to pause the live wallpaper when you open a game or app in full screen so that it can free up system resources. Similarly, if you are on a laptop or tablet, you can configure Lively to pause to save the battery when running on the battery.
