With the optional KB5010414 update, Microsoft has added the weather widget to Windows 11 taskbar.
The weather widget appears on the left side of the taskbar if the taskbar icons are aligned to the center. However, when the taskbar icons are aligned to the left, the Weather icon shows up right next to the Start button but does not provide detailed information about the weather.
As of now, there is no way to show the Weather on the right side of the taskbar (as seen in Windows 10).
The new weather widget serves a dual purpose. In addition to showing weather information for the selected location, it also brings up the Widgets panel when you click or hover the mouse cursor on it (the Widget panel disappears the moment you move the cursor away from it). So, it works as an entry point to the Widgets panel. In other words, the old Widgets icon on the taskbar is configured to show weather information.
Weather on the taskbar was one of the most requested features after the initial release of Windows 11. The Weather widget or weather button makes it easier to glance at the weather details without opening the Widgets board or built-in Weather app.
However, if you do not like to see weather information on the Windows 11 taskbar, you are allowed to remove or hide the weather widget from the taskbar.
NOTE: Since the weather widget is also the entry point to the Widgets panel, you will have to use the Windows + W hotkey to access the Widgets panel in the absence of the weather widget on the taskbar. And if you wish to completely remove the Widgets panel, refer to our how-to-uninstall Widgets board from Windows 11 guide.
Here is how to remove the Weather widget from Windows 11 taskbar.
Hide weather button from Windows 11 taskbar
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Personalization > Taskbar page.
Step 2: Click on the Taskbar items and then turn off the Widgets to hide and remove the weather widget from the taskbar.
