Windows 10/11 offers multiple options to protect your data on the computer. In addition to the good-old password, you can use a PIN, security key, facial recognition, and fingerprint recognition to secure your computer and data.
Securing your Windows 10/11 user account with a fingerprint is one of the easiest ways to secure your data. Once you set up fingerprint to unlock your PC, you no longer need to remember your account password. Besides, you can unlock your PC with a simple touch or swipe on the fingerprint sensor.
If you have set up facial recognition or PIN, you might want to remove your fingerprint. However, we do not recommend removing the fingerprint before adding other sign-in options.
This guide shows you how to safely remove your fingerprint from Windows 10/11 computer.
IMPORTANT: Once you remove your fingerprint, you will need the password, PIN, or facial recognition to unlock your computer. If you do not have facial recognition on your PC, make sure that you remember the account password or PIN before removing your fingerprint.
Remove fingerprint from Windows 10/11 PC
Step 1: The first step is to open the Settings app. In the Settings app, navigate to the Accounts > Sign-in options page.
Step 2: Once there, click on the Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) or Windows Hello Fingerprint (Windows 10) option.
Step 3: The Remove button should be visible now. Click the Remove button to remove the fingerprint from your Windows 11 installation.
From now onwards, you cannot use your fingerprint to unlock your Windows 10/11 PC.
Remove fingerprint from Mac
Recent Mac computes include fingerprint sensors. If you have set up a fingerprint (Touch ID), you can remove it this way.
Step 1: Open System Settings. Go to Touch ID & Password.
Step 2: In the Touch ID section, click on the fingerprint image (refer to the picture below) to see the ‘X’ icon.
Step 3: Click on the ‘X’ icon. When asked, type your Mac’s account password.
Step 4: Finally, you will see the confirmation dialog. Here click on the Delete button to remove the saved fingerprint.
And if you wish not to use the fingerprint to unlock your Mac without actually deleting the fingerprint, turn off the ‘Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac’ option.
