Windows 8 ships with a bunch of quality Metro-style apps, and one can always download more apps form the Windows Store. Microsoft has been updating the Windows Store regularly with new apps. Software vendors are also releasing a Metro version of their popular apps.

Those who have installed some apps from the Store would know that installing, updating, and uninstalling Metro apps are relatively simple in Windows 8. Uninstalling an app is very simple in Windows 8.

Right-clicking on the app that you wish to uninstall will bring up the app charm menu with commands. Here, you should see the uninstall option. Clicking on the uninstall option will remove the app and related information from your PC. Because of this reason, you may accidentally uninstall an app.

If you have downloaded hundreds of Metro-style from the Store, you might want to prevent others from uninstalling your favorite apps. Even though one can quickly restore uninstalled apps in Windows 8 by downloading apps from the Store (see how to restore uninstalled native apps), installing apps all over again is not a good idea. If you share your PC or tablet with your family or friends, you might want to prevent others from uninstalling apps.

Step 1: Open Windows + R Keys to open the Run dialog. In the box, type gpedit.msc and then press enter key to open Group Policy.

Step 2: In the Group Policy, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.

Step 3: On the right-side, look for the entry named “Prevent users from uninstalling applications from Start.” Double-click on the policy, select Enabled, and then click Ok button to apply the change. You are done!  You may need to log off and log on to see the change. This will remove the uninstall command that otherwise appears when you right-click on an app.
