Majority of computer and smartphone users use the popular Google search to search the internet. With default settings, as soon as you start typing the search keyword in the search box on Google’s homepage, the search engine automatically starts showing suggestions and results.
And when you click on one of the search results, the result will be opened in the same tab, irrespective of your web browser and operating system. In other words, when you click on a link, the resulting page will be opened in the same tab instead of a new tab.
While there is nothing wrong with this default behaviour, you need to either open the Google webpage all over again or hit the back button on your browser if the initially clicked webpage didn’t provide the required or sufficient information you are looking for.
Obviously, when search results appear, you can right-click on a result and then click open in new tab page option but you might want configure Google to open each search result in a new tab page instead in the same tab by default.
Here is how you can configure Google to open each search result in a new tab page.

Step 1: Open Google.com in your web browser. Sign-in to your Google account if you haven’t already. While you don’t need to have or sign-in with your Google account, configuring Google to open search results in a new tab page when you are signed in enables you see the same behaviour on any PC just by signing into your Google account.
And if you don’t want to sign-in or don’t have a Google account, you can simply proceed further.
Step 2: Enter a word to the result. Now, instead of clicking on one of the results, click on the small Gear icon located upper-right of the webpage and then click Search Settings to open settings page.
Step 3: Here, under Where results open section, check the box labelled Open each selected result in a new browser window before clicking the Save button.
You should now see a small dialog with “Your preferences have been saved” message. Click OK button.
