Nowadays, Ring makes more than cameras and doorbells; it also manufacturers floodlights, Wi-Fi extenders, and now, Pathway Lights. You can get these solar-powered lights in packs of six, and you can connect them to your smart home security devices. Doing so, however, is not exactly intuitive.

Have the Right Items on Hand

You will need the following items to properly install your pathway lights:

  • At least one Ring Pathway lightThe Ring BridgeA smart device, like a phone or tabletThe newest version of the Ring appA stable Wi-Fi connection

Set Up the Ring Bridge

The Ring Bridge basically serves as a hub that allows your smart home devices to maintain an internet connection and “talk” to each other. Some devices, like the Ring Doorbell, do not need this component. However, your Ring Pathway Lights do.

Before moving on to the next part, make sure that you have this device. It might not have come with your initial purchase.

To set up the Ring Bridge, follow these steps:

  • Open the Ring App.Select the three lines in the top left-hand corner of the screen.Choose “Set Up a Device.”Tap “Smart Lightning Bridge.”Enter your location.

Scan the QR Code on the Back of the Bridge

Now, locate the QR code on your Ring Bridge. It should look like a square barcode on the back of the device. From here, open your camera and scan the code. If you can’t locate the QR code or otherwise scan it, tap “Set Up Without Scanning.” The app will manually ask you to enter some information.

Place Your Ring Bridge

Your Ring Bridge should be placed within 1,000 feet of your pathway lights; it connects to an outlet using a micro-USB charger. Ring suggests putting the Bridge by a window for the best possible results.

At this point, you can plug in and turn on your Bridge.

Enter Setup Mode

The blue and green lights on your Bridge will flash for about a minute. While it’s doing this, open the Ring app. Tap “Light is Flashing” once the blue light starts flashing. Then, follow the prompts on the screen. If your device doesn’t flash blue, you can reset the Bridge by pressing the setup button for five seconds.

Connect Your Ring Bridge to the Internet

If you’re using an Android, your Ring Bridge will automatically connect to the Ring Wi-Fi network. If you’re using an iPhone:

  • Leave the Ring app.Go to Settings.Choose your Ring network under Wi-Fi, which should be Ring following six digits or Ring Setup.

Once your device is connected to the internet, re-enter the Ring app. Then:

  • Select your Wi-Fi network.Enter your username and password.

At this point, your Ring Bridge could be ready to go. However, this is only part one of installing your Ring Pathway lights.

Assemble the Pathway Light

If you purchased the solar-powered pathway lights, simply attach the lamp to its stake and put it in the ground.

If you don’t have the solar-powered model, you’ll need four D-cell batteries. Press the second button and slide the cover down to insert the batteries.

Connect Your Ring Pathway Light to the Internet

To connect your Ring Pathway Light to the internet:

  • Open the Ring app.Choose the three lines in the top left-hand corner.Select “Set Up a Device.”Tap “Smart Lighting.”Choose your location.Scan your light’s QR code using your phone.

Now, you’ll take your pathway lights (with the batteries in, if applicable), put them in the ground, and wait until the light flashes twice. In the app:

  • Press “Continue.”Choose “Custom” and create a “Light Group.” (This lets you control multiple lights at once.)Name your Light Group.

Now, you should be good to go. At this point, you can experiment with putting your Pathway Lights in different places. Remember: your lights should be less than 1,000 feet away from the Bridge for the best possible results.

Things to Keep in Mind When Installing Your Ring Pathway Lights

Here are some tips that could ensure a fast and easy setup process:

  • Make sure that your Bridge and Pathway Lights are on the same Wi-Fi network.Putting your Bridge by the window can cut down on obstructions that could delay notifications.Your home network is not the same as the Ring Wi-Fi network.
