Google Sheets is a cloud-based service, well, by Google, to help users create and edit spreadsheets for free. Anyone with a Gmail/Google account can use the free Google Sheets service. Simply put, Google Sheets is an alternative to Microsoft Excel software.
The Google Sheets app is officially available for smartphone operating systems Android and iOS (same is the case with Google Docs and Google Meet as well). However, there is no official app out there for Windows and macOS.
Can we install the Google Sheets app on Windows and Mac?
Yes, we can install the Google Sheets app on Windows and macOS without using Android emulators. But you might ask how to install it when it’s not officially available.
Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers offer a feature that helps you install Google Sheets as an app. The installed app works seamlessly.
Install Google Sheets in Windows 10/11 and macOS using Chrome
Step 1: Launch the Chrome browser, visit the Google Sheets website, and ensure you are signed in to your Google/Gmail account.
Step 2: When you are on the home page of Google Sheets, click on the three dots next to the profile picture (refer to the image below), click More tools and then click Create shortcut option.
Step 3: In the Create shortcut pop-up, type Google Sheets, select Open as window, and then click the Create button. That’s it!
You can now use the search to launch the Google Sheets app.
Install Google Sheets on Windows 10/11 and Mac using the Microsoft Edge browser
Step 1: Open Edge and head over to Google Sheets webpage. Sign in to your Google/Gmail account
Step 2: Click on the three dots next to the profile icon (refer to the picture below), click Apps, and then click Install this site as an app option.
Step 3: When you see the Install app pop-up, type Google Sheets in the field and then click the Install button to install and launch the app.
On Windows 10/11, once the app is launched, you will see the following pop-up where you select if you wish to add the Google Sheets shortcuts to the Start menu and taskbar.
Use the Google Sheets app offline?
Since Google Sheets is a cloud-based service, you cannot use this app offline. You must connect your PC to the Internet to use the app.
Uninstall the Google Sheets app
The Google Sheets app can be uninstalled like any other app on your computer. In Windows 10/11, search for Google Sheets in the search, right-click on it, and then click the Uninstall option.
On Mac, right-click on the Google Sheets entry in the Applications folder and then click the Move to Trash option.
